On June 21 and 22, Greenwood Farm of Weatherford will host a clinic with Mary D'Arcy for the North Texas Eventing Association Junior Development Program.
She's a first-class instructor with a tremendous depth of knowledge," says farm owner Christie Tull, who chairs the youth program for NTEA, the largest eventing club in the state. "She has an incredible following." Christie was especially impressed by the improvement in each horse and rider at a similar clinic Mary led at the farm last spring.
A native of Dublin, Ireland, Mary enrolled in a local riding school at the age of 10 and became an active participant in Pony Club. She studied for and obtained her equestrian teaching qualifications, then began a successful competitive career in show jumping, eventing and dressage. To further her education, she studied with top-class trainers in Germany, Italy, Switzerland and Great Britain.
For more than 20 years she has coached riders for such competitions as the Atlanta, Sydney and Athens Olympics, World and European Championships, and major horse trials all over the world. She coached five European medalists, including the gold-medal winning team at the 1995 European Young Riders Three-Day Event Championships in Germany.
Mary currently lives in Fort Worth with her husband Daniel O'Connell and their six-year-old son, Brendan.
