New Zealander Nick larkin, and now lexington, Ky., resident brought his expertise to Greenwood Farm on January 11 - 13 for an eventing clinic. Don Sachey once again brought his remarkable skills and teaching ability to Greenwood Farm on November 3rd and 4th for clinic which was well attended.


July 21st and 22nd brought internationally famed course designer and competitor, John Williams, to Greenwood Farm to share his extensive knowledge with those riders that were fortunate enough to attend. All left with greater skills and preparedness to compete at higher levels. To learn more about John Williams check out his website.


On June 23rd & 24th Mary D'Arcy conducted a sold out clinic in which participants had the opportunity to improve their their eventing skills. They even got a little bit of a taste of what it is like to be a steeplechase rider. Exciting indeed!!! D'Arcy brought her enormous toolbox of knowledge to Greenwood Farm to the benefit of all. D'Arcy is a freqeunt visitor to Greenwood and her clinics are alwasy well attended.


Internationally respected trainer Kathleen Zins conducted a well attended eventing clinic at Greenwood Farm on March 3rd & 4th. Students traveled hundreds of miles to benefit from the coaching expertise of Zins. Based in McNeal, Arizona, Zins travels six months a year to venues in the United States and Europe coaching and competing. She visits Greenwood Farm at least a couple of times a year. Zins says that the twice a year horse trials hosted by Greenwood Farm “ are the best in Texas.” Click on the thumbnails to view larger image.

Greenwood Farm hosts Hunter Qualifying Championship

Western District Field Hunter Qualifying championship took place at Greenwood Farm in Weatherford TX on Oct 7 th.  The judges for this Centennial occasion were Noel Twyman of Montpelier Station, Virginia and Sue Allmart from Mexico, Missouri.  Each one of the competitors, 22 in all from 6 different hunting organizations in TX, OK and Arkansas, were critiqued for proper hunting attire set forth by the Masters of Foxhound Association.  Following this phase the horses were asked to walk, trot, canter, hand gallop, stop and stand quietly, then they set forth over a 3 mile course consisting of multiple jumps, including water crossings and hard gallops across open fields.  After this phase the horses were asked to jump a course of logs and coops, open then close a gate, jump a red coat draped over a jump, then dismount and lead their horse over the final fence. 

Terry Olsen, Master of Foxhounds from Brazos Valley hunt riding Sundance was the over all winner of the day.  She and Sundance made a beautiful picture throughout the entire day, completing all the phases with grace.  The second place horse was the junior rider (under 18 yo), Emily Dewing, riding John Deleyer’s Dylan represented the Longacre Hunt from Flynn TX.  The third place award was given to Doris Foster, riding Rocky, owned by Jeanne Hayes and representing the Harvard Foxhounds from Tulsa Ok.  Jennifer Stewart and her horse Thuy were fourth.  These four riders now have qualified to attend the Masters of Foxhound Centennial Championship which will be held in Leesburg, Virginia on May 27, 2007.   Click here to see photos of the winners.
